I can understand the value of "no gripes" at least to some degree.
However, I think praise is related to an encouragement. If I see that a job has been well done or someone has done something that excites praise in me...I like to offer that. I think that praise can uplift hearts and it encourages us to move forward with even more enthusiasm.
Not long ago I was working on a project in which one of the players made a good many mistakes and as a result the project was greatly delayed -- which not only affected that project but will also have an effect on the next one. Karma at work.
At any rate...there was a tendency on my part to want to gripe...but we were on a tight deadline and being critical would have made matters worse.....soooo we all decided not to direct any blame ....not to even think about blame....and just move forward so we could get the job done.
It was so helpful to those working on the project and it felt good just to "let it go."
However, after the project was completed, it was decided not to get this other player involved in this project again as it really was not handled very well.
So there was no blame and there was also "no game" for that player as a result. Cause and effect....without gripes!
